The Importance of Vocabulary: An Evaluation in the Context of Teachers' Views and Practices

Words, which are the basic elements of understanding and understanding, have important functions in teaching the mother tongue, recognizing the social culture, and developing the emotions and thoughts of the individual. For this reason, it can be said that teaching vocabulary and a developed vocabulary have important effects on the social and individual development of the individual. The purpose of this research; to reveal the importance of vocabulary in the context of teacher views and practices. The research was designed according to action research, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 15 Turkish teachers selected by simple random sampling method. Research data were collected with a semi-structured interview. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis technique In the study, it was concluded that the teachers considered teaching vocabulary necessary and important. In addition, in the research, it was stated that vocabulary teaching is a multidimensional and complex process; It has been concluded that the experience and knowledge of teachers in vocabulary teaching are different from each other and therefore they use very different approaches and techniques in teaching vocabulary.
